What is Academic Decathlon? Academic Decathlon is a ten-event scholastic competition for high school students. It is designed to provide students the opportunity to compete and showcase their academic and personal talents on a regional, state, and national level. Academic Decathlon consists of seven multiple-choice tests, two performance events, and one essay.
The Academic Decathlon consists of seven multiple-choice tests in the following categories: Art, Economics, Mathematics, Music, Science, Social Science, and the Super Quiz. The two performance events are Speech and Interview, and the essay is an original writing exercise. The competition is structured to challenge both “A” and “B” honor students alike, and each student must strive to do his or her best in all ten events. The first six tests and the essay are administered prior to the competition. The remaining events are timed events that take place at the competition site.
The Academic Decathlon provides students the opportunity to cultivate skills and gain knowledge in the areas of science, mathematics, economics, art, music, literature, history, and the Super Quiz which is a combination of all other subjects.
